A Historic Moment

​Dear friends,

We write to mark the major news of last week: on Friday Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his work in improving peace in the Horn of Africa and especially for the historic breakthrough of reestablishing relations between Ethiopia and Eritrea.

Our warmest congratulations to Dr. Abiy and Ethiopia on this historic moment. Although much remains to be done for true peace to be achieved in the country and the region, we are encouraged that the world has taken note of the progress to date.

The Haile-Manas Academy aspires to be part of Ethiopia’s peaceful and prosperous future. As we get ready to open our doors in September 2020, we already dream of the many positive ways our graduates will contribute to their communities and to peace in the world. As President John F. Kennedy put it, “Peace is a daily, a weekly, a monthly process, gradually changing opinions, slowly eroding old barriers, quietly building new structures.” We are thrilled to be building one such structure to peace.
