More Green News!
It’s the rainy season, and once again we’re doing our part to support Ethiopia’s Green Legacy initiative! This initiative, announced by the Prime Minister last year, is designed to tackle Ethiopia’s severe deforestation and the effects of climate change through an ambitious effort to plant millions of trees nationwide.
This week HMA planted 255 seedlings, mostly along the perimeter of campus. All 255 seedlings were gifts, generously given to us by the Debre Birhan Teachers’ College, Rama Construction (our contractor), Deputy Head of School Tesfaye Kifle, and our good friend Ato Yehalem Abebe. Specimens included indigenous trees such as East African redwood (hagenia abyssinica) and juniper. Thank you, friends!
For HMA, environmental sustainability is a core principle. We will integrate environmental sustainability learning and practice into what we teach and into every element of how we live. Planting these trees was a joy, as it was last year. And most exciting is knowing that very soon, such efforts will be planned and implemented by our first class of pioneering students, supported by our committed founding faculty.
We are thrilled to do our part, and to raise up the next generation of young people who will keep the Green Legacy going!
